 Obituary in the Connexions Digest
 
 Abstract:  George Manuel, who was the first president of the National Indian Brotherhood, died this November [1989] at the age of 68. A Shuswap Indian, Mr. Manuel led efforts to gain non-governmental status for Native peoples at the United Nations and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He served as president of the National Indian Brotherhood (later the Assembly of First Nations) from 1970 to 1976, and also served as president of the World Council of Indigenous Peoples.
