Rats A Year with New York's Most Unwanted Inhabitants
Sullivan, Robert Publisher: Granta Year Published: 2004 Pages: 243pp Resource Type: Book
An engrossing account of a year spent hanging out in a Manhattan alley.
Abstract: Where there are humans there are rats. Sullivan's book takes to us from a Manhattan alley to librairies and exterminators where he learns what food they like and mating habits. He explores our fears and disgust of the rodent. Along the way we learn about the black death, the infestation of rats after 9/11 and about New York city and the layers of the metropolis that we have built and forgotten about. To him rats are our "mirror species" thriving or starving in the cities we have created.
