Yates looks at class from a global vantage point integrating discussions of race, gender, and class, and the emergence of an international capitalist class.

Abstract:  This Marxist analysis of class focuses on many issues. Essays from different authors discuss various topics: the relationship of race to class, gender and class, the unequal income and wealth, race and the struggle post-Hurricane Katrina and the rise of an informal economy based on undocumented workers. The authors make apparent that class divisions manifests itself in all facets of living in a global capitalist world-wealth, income, power, education and health. For them an investigation of the role and meaning of class is needed for any positive societal change to take place.
