Uneasy Partners Multiculturalism and Rights in Canada
Stein, Gross Janice et. al. Publisher: Wilfred University University Press Year Published: 2007 Resource Type: Book
Abstract: The various contributors to this volume debate the ideas of equal rights, multiculturalism and the tension between the two. Janice Stein opens with an essay that asks if the emergence of religious orthodoxy in all major religions threatens equal rights as defined in the Charter. The following essays by well known Canadian political journalists (Michael Valpy, John Ibbitson, Haroon Siddiqi and John Meisel) all square off on the issue and have varying opinions: some opting to leave the issue alone, some believing that time and accommodation will resolve things and yet another believes religion and multiculturalism should not be mixed together. In true Stein manner she lets everyone express their views.
