Abstract: An independent quasi-judicial tribunal, the PMPRB limits the prices set by patentees for all patented medicines sold in Canada to ensure that they are not excessive. Sales of patented drugs account for approximately 70% of all drugs sold in Canada. The PMPRB reports annually to Parliament on its activities, price trends of medicines, and patentees' R&D expenditures.
