Abstract: 1 reel. Extant. Newsreel of the March 7th Detroit/Dearborn demonstration and hunger march of unemployed Ford workers. Showing the attack by police, funeral of the four workers killed, and subsequent protest picketing. The only newsreel coverage of the historic mass march in downtown Detroit on February 4, 1932, against the starvation program of Hoover/Murphy, and the armed, unprovoked attack by Dearborn police and Ford “guards” on unemployed auto workers at the gates of the River Rouge plant. The Detroit Film and Photo League filmed the march to Grand Circus Park through bitter cold and snow to petition for unemployment relief and oppose President Hoover and Mayor Murphy's "starvation program." At the River Rouge Ford Motor plant, Dearborn police joined with Ford guards to attack protesters with clubs, tear gas and guns. Of the four young men murdered, the film observes, "They asked for food and jobs ... They got bullets!" 7 mins.
