A summary of the massacre at Nanking (Nanjing) , which occurred over a period of six weeks starting on December 13, 1937. During this period soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army perpetrated horrific atrocities, and murdered Chinese civilians and disarmed combatants who numbered an estimated 40,000 to over 300,000.

Abstract:
--

Excerpt: The International Military Tribunal for the Far East estimated that, in addition to children and the elderly, 20,000 Chinese women were raped during the occupation. A large number of rapes were done systematically by the Japanese soldiers as they went from door to door, searching for girls, with many women being captured and gang raped. The women were often killed immediately after being raped, often through explicit mutilation or by penetrating vaginas with bayonets, long sticks of bamboo, or other objects. Young children were not exempt from these atrocities and were cut open to allow Japanese soldiers to rape them.
