Aftermath
These days , it seems that we inhabit
a continuous aftrmath.
Each day brings fresh trauma:
an attack, a bombing, a stabbing, a shooting;
sometimes all of the above,
too often multiplied
by five, or ten, or one hundred, or more.
It never ends.
One aftermath bleeds--
literally--into another,
a mournful, discordant,
all-too-chained melody.
