One Deer Lake crusader believes a corporate giant knew about debris sullying the towns water supply. Hes on a mission to prove it.

Abstract:  Dewey is among the residents of Deer Lake who blame the towns water for the deaths of their family and friends. Generally speaking, they have reason to be suspicious. Toxic sites litter the Canadian landscape, the threat of chemicals and compounds hanging over nearby communities. There are as many as 5,000 of them in Newfoundland and Labrador alone.

Those contaminated areas pollution in the air, water and soil sometimes cause physical harm to people and wildlife nearby, like in Grassy Narrows First Nation in Ontario, where mercury poisoning has sickened residents for decades.

Other times, though, the potential harm from industrial operations is less obvious.
