While accelerated death rates amidst periods of extreme heat are shaped by social conditions, public health measures such as early warning systems, accessible cooling centres, and proactive outreach to vulnerable populations contribute to minimizing the risk of these conditions. Despite increasing periods of extreme heat across the country, however, Canada's response to these conditions has been insufficient--severely lacking accessible services that address the populations most vulnerable to extreme heat conditions.
