In the modern world, the incidence of many mental and physical health conditions is increasing. Generally, this means that younger generations are less healthy than older generations, and that doctors have improved at recognizing and treating a variety of medical issues. This article also explores another possibility: that individual differences in personality and physiology have become firm diagnoses, and that normal differences are being pathologized.
