Abstract: This article is an analysis of the effect on the Alberta poor of a 9% food allowance increase in 1972-1973. At that time, the inflation rate was 12.5% for food. The purpose of the brief was to articulate the need for the Alberta gov't to realistically set allowances based on the cost of living. It includes recommendations for change and, in the appendix, a recommended method for nutrition education.
