| Human rights violations in Latin AmericaYear Published:  1990Resource Type:  Article

Abstract:  The Inter-Church Committee on Human Rights in Latin America (ICCHRLA) reports that during 1989 there were sharp increases in gross and systematic human rights violations in Columbia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru, despite the fact that each of these countries has an elected civilian government. In its annual report, released in March 1990, ICCHRLA presents in-depth analyses of the situation in Latin American countries, with special attention to enforced disappearances, torture, summary executions, and the role of the police and military.
