| GM wants U.S. holidays in CanadaYear Published:  1990Resource Type:  Article

Abstract:  General Motors Ltd. wants Canadian employees to take U.S. holidays rather than Canadian holidays. The company has asked workers in Windsor to take Memorial Day rather than Victoria Day, U.S. Thanksgiving rather than Canadian Thanksgiving, and Independence Day rather than Canada Day. GM says that the holiday transfer would put the Windsor plant in a better competitive position to get a contract to manufacture Buick seat covers.
