Abstract:  The Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics has released a study, "Children as Victims of Violent Crime". The study shows that during the 1980's, 542 children were murdered in Canada -- 8 per cent of all homicides. 70 per cent of the child victims were under five years of age. Most child murders were committed by relatives: 33 per cent were killed by their mothers, 33 per cent by their fathers; 11 per cent by strangers.
