Written for the general reader, and well-illustrated, this book paints Canada's natural world in broad brush strokes but with a wealth of detail.

Abstract:  It is not uncommon to find people who are concerned about 'the environment' but who know little about the actual web of interrelated life that makes up the natural world of which we are a part. Those interested in knowing more are more easily able to locate information which deals with some small aspect of the natural world than resources which look at the whole, as a whole. The Natural History of Canada is an exception: the author relates that the book grew out of an attempt to answer a question from a young reader who asked "What is Life?" Written for the general reader, and well-illustrated, it paints Canada's natural world in broad brush strokes but with a wealth of detail. The environmentally concerned reader will come away with a much richer understanding of the natural world not simply as something that needs to be preserved here and there, but as the network of life itself, which includes and sustains us humans as well.
